A robbery at a potato godown in Bharatpur area of Bhubaneswar shocked local traders after miscreants looted Rs 2.5 lakh and fled with the CCTV DVR to erase evidence.
Bharatpur Police acted swiftly, tracked the accused, and recovered Rs 1.5 lakh from his possession.
Police said the accused entered the godown at night and stole the cash kept inside. He also took away the CCTV DVR to destroy proof of the crime. Investigators quickly traced his movements and arrested him, recovering part of the stolen money.
Officials confirmed that the accused’s details and connections are under investigation. The recovered DVR helped police identify key evidence. Officers stated that prompt action and coordination led to the quick arrest and recovery.
Local traders and godown owners expressed concern over the incident, urging stronger security measures at commercial establishments. Police advised the installation of CCTV cameras and regular patrolling in residential and business areas to prevent such crimes.
Eyewitnesses said the godown had no security guard at night, allowing the thief easy access. Police are now investigating whether others were involved in the robbery.
