Shreyas Iyer continued his impressive form with the bat and as captain, steering Punjab Kings to a comfortable six-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 17 of the TATA IPL 2026 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
Chasing a challenging target of 220, Punjab Kings reached 223/4 in just 18.5 overs, maintaining their unbeaten record in the tournament. Iyer remained not out on 69 off an unspecified number of deliveries, earning the Player of the Match award for his composed and match-winning innings.
The foundation for the successful chase was laid by the explosive opening pair of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh. The duo provided a blistering start, with their aggressive strokeplay putting SRH’s bowlers under immediate pressure. Their rapid fifty-plus partnership set the tone for a dominant pursuit.
Iyer then took charge in the middle overs, mixing caution with calculated aggression to guide the innings. His unbeaten 69 ensured there were no major hiccups as PBKS cruised past the target with 7 balls to spare.
Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad posted 219/6 in their 20 overs after being put in to bat. Despite a promising start, SRH lost momentum in the death overs, failing to capitalise fully on the batting-friendly conditions in New Chandigarh.
With this win, Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings remain the only unbeaten side in IPL 2026, showcasing strong team balance and depth in both batting and bowling departments.
The victory boosts PBKS’ confidence as they look to build on their early momentum in the league stage.
