Anil Kumble compared Rajasthan Royals’ teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to a young Sachin Tendulkar after his explosive performances in the 2026 Indian Premier League.
Vaibhav has scored 200 runs in four matches, including two half-centuries, and currently holds the Orange Cap.
Kumble recalled watching a 15-year-old Sachin dominate bowlers and said Vaibhav’s batting evokes similar excitement. He praised the youngster’s technique and temperament but warned against rushing him into the national team. “When Sachin came into the scene, every time he batted, he scored hundreds. Vaibhav is doing all the right things, but it’s too early to expect him to play for India in two months,” Kumble said during an event at the Cricket Club of India.
The former India captain emphasised that Vaibhav has time on his side. “Even ten years later, he will still be only 25. That’s the beauty of starting young. He can develop gradually and still have a long career,” Kumble added.
Selectors have reportedly taken note of Vaibhav’s performances, but Kumble urged fans and media to let the teenager grow without pressure. He highlighted that some players mature early while others peak later, and both paths can lead to success.
Sachin Tendulkar made his India debut at 16 and remains the youngest player to represent the country across formats. Vaibhav could break that record if he earns his maiden cap before October 2027. For now, Kumble believes patience and guidance will help the young star reach his full potential.
