The India Meteorological Department issued a weather warning for five districts in Odisha, cautioning residents about thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds.
The alert covers Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Nuapada, and Nabarangpur.
Officials forecast heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour. The warning remains in effect until April 4. Meteorologists noted that interior Odisha continues to experience hot conditions, while coastal areas remain relatively cooler.
On April 3, IMD placed Ganjam, Gajapati, and Puri under a yellow warning for heat. At the same time, Nuapada and Nabarangpur received a yellow warning for thunderstorms. The department also highlighted the risk of humidity-related discomfort, urging residents to take precautions.
The weather pattern shows a mix of scorching daytime heat and evening showers. Authorities advised people to stay indoors during lightning activity and avoid open fields. Farmers received guidance to protect standing crops from sudden downpours and strong winds.
The IMD emphasised that the state will witness significant weather changes beginning April 5. Heavy rain and thunderstorms may intensify in localised areas, raising concerns about safety and preparedness.
