Rajasthan Royals delivered a commanding all-round performance to kick off their IPL 2026 campaign with a resounding 8-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Monday.
CSK were bundled out for a modest 127 in 19.4 overs after a disastrous powerplay that saw them slump to 41/4. Rajasthan’s pace duo of Jofra Archer (2/19) and Nandre Burger (impressive economy) set the tone early, while Ravindra Jadeja provided crucial middle-overs control with 2/18. Jamie Overton top-scored with a fighting 43 off 36 balls, but lacked meaningful support as CSK’s innings never gained momentum.
In reply, Rajasthan Royals made light work of the target, racing to victory with 47 balls to spare. Young opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi stole the show with a breathtaking 52 off just 17 deliveries (4 fours and 5 sixes), reaching his fifty in a mere 15 balls at a strike rate of over 305. He forged a blistering 75-run opening stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who remained unbeaten on 38 off 36 balls. The Royals reached 74 without loss in the powerplay itself, effectively sealing the game before the strategic timeout. They finished at 128/2, with Riyan Parag unbeaten on 14.
This comprehensive win not only underlined RR’s balance across departments but also highlighted the explosive potential of their young batting lineup. CSK, on the other hand, will need to regroup quickly after a collapse that exposed vulnerabilities in their top order.
The head-to-head record between the two sides now stands level, but Rajasthan have sent a strong message early in the season.
