Novak Djokovic suffered a shock exit at the Indian Wells Masters, losing to defending champion Jack Draper in a gripping Round of 16 clash.

Draper edged the 38-year-old Serbian 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(5) in a contest that lasted nearly three hours.

Djokovic fought hard to stay in contention, producing flashes of brilliance, including a 26-shot rally win in the third set. However, he admitted the physical toll left him drained. “Winning that point felt great, but I completely ran out of gas,” Djokovic said. “I have a bitter feeling right now after losing a match like this, but I’m proud of myself for fighting and giving everything on the court.”

Draper showed resilience and composure, particularly in the deciding set, where his consistency proved decisive. The British star, returning from a long-term arm injury, denied Djokovic a place in the quarter-finals for the first time since 2016. “I won that match through determination, problem-solving, and keeping a great attitude,” Draper said. “To beat Novak, who for me is the greatest tennis player ever, makes me incredibly proud.”

Djokovic acknowledged Draper’s high level of play and wished him success for the rest of the tournament. Despite the disappointment, he highlighted positives from his performance, noting his refusal to give up.
