Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following military exchanges involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, the United Arab Emirates’ ambassador to India, Hussain Hassan Mirza, has suggested that India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi holds significant diplomatic influence that could contribute to de-escalating the crisis.
Speaking in a recent media interaction, Mirza highlighted the respect Modi commands among global leaders and noted that his credibility could help facilitate dialogue between conflicting nations.
Ambassador Highlights Modi’s Global Standing
Mirza said that Prime Minister Modi enjoys strong diplomatic relations not only with Gulf nations but also with leaders and communities across the Middle East.
According to the ambassador, Modi’s established relationships with leaders in both Iran and Israel position him as a potential mediator.
“One phone call from Mr. Modi to the counterparts in Iran and Israel can solve this issue, can end this issue,” Mirza said, emphasizing the confidence placed in the Indian leader’s diplomatic capabilities.
He further explained that Modi’s influence extends beyond political leadership to business communities and the wider public across Gulf countries.
Escalating Middle East Conflict Raises Global Concerns
The regional conflict intensified following joint military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, an attack that reportedly resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The situation quickly escalated, spreading tensions across several Gulf states.
Countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Jordan have expressed concerns over the widening conflict and its potential regional consequences.
Mirza stated that the UAE has no intention of becoming directly involved in the hostilities. However, he expressed concern over military activities affecting the region.
“They are fighting each other on our soil. That is unacceptable,” he noted.
UAE’s Strategic Role in Regional Diplomacy
Mirza emphasized that the UAE could play a constructive role in diplomatic negotiations due to its strategic position in the region. The country shares geographic proximity with Iran while also maintaining diplomatic ties with Israel through the Abraham Accords.
This dual relationship allows the UAE to potentially act as a bridge for dialogue between the opposing sides.
“We can negotiate between the two,” Mirza added, stressing the importance of diplomatic engagement over military escalation.
PM Modi Holds Talks with UAE Leadership
Amid the ongoing crisis, Prime Minister Modi recently held a conversation with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss regional developments and express India’s support for stability in the Gulf region.
In a public message shared after the discussion, Modi condemned attacks on the UAE and conveyed condolences for lives lost during the conflict.
He also expressed appreciation for the UAE’s continued support and protection of the large Indian community living in the country.
India reiterated its commitment to regional peace and called for de-escalation through dialogue and diplomatic efforts.
India Reaffirms Call for Diplomacy
India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar also addressed the situation in Parliament, reiterating New Delhi’s consistent position advocating dialogue and restraint.
Jaishankar said India remains deeply concerned about the rising hostilities and has urged all sides to avoid further escalation.
“Our government has called for restraint and continues to believe that dialogue and diplomacy are the only viable path to resolving tensions,” he stated.
He also assured lawmakers that the government is closely monitoring developments to safeguard India’s energy security and national interests.
