The iconic sibling deities of Puri Jagannath Temple will be adorned in a resplendent golden attire tonight on the occasion of Dola Purnima. This special ceremony, known as Suna Besha or Rajadhiraja Besha, is one of the five golden attire rituals performed annually at the temple.
Dola Utsav, a seven-day festival, begins on the 10th day of Phalguna’s bright fortnight and concludes on the first day of Chaitra. The grand finale coincides with Dola Purnima, when Lord Jagannath, along with His siblings Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra, are dressed in elaborate gold attire.
Unique Timing Due to Lunar Eclipse
This year, the Suna Besha celebration is being held at night due to a lunar eclipse. Typically observed during daytime, the ritual tonight offers devotees a rare opportunity to witness the deities in golden splendour under moonlight.
Temple authorities opened the doors at 1 am, followed by the Mangala Aarti. After the Abakasha Puja and Mekap rituals, the deities were offered Khaikora Bhoga. The idols of Dolagobinda, Lakshmi, and Saraswati were then taken in a vibrant procession on a palanquin, accompanied by devotees playing Holi, creating a lively and devotional atmosphere.

Devotees believe that witnessing Lord Jagannath in Suna Besha brings prosperity, divine blessings, and spiritual fulfillment. Thousands are expected to gather at the temple, making this an auspicious and unforgettable experience.
