Odisha Reviews Safety Measures for Non-Resident Odias Amid Middle East Crisis; Helpline Numbers Issued

Amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, the Government of Odisha convened a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review the safety and well-being of Non-Resident Odias (NROs) residing in the region.


The meeting was held under the direction of Chief Minister Mohan Majhi and chaired by Chief Secretary Anu Garg. Senior officials discussed preparedness measures and coordinated response strategies to safeguard Odias living abroad.

The Chief Minister directed departments to undertake necessary preparations and implement appropriate safety measures. Emphasising vigilance, the Chief Secretary instructed all relevant authorities to remain alert and ensure timely intervention based on the evolving geopolitical situation.


Helpline Numbers Released for Emergency Support

To provide immediate assistance, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, has issued the following 24-hour helpline numbers:

Additionally, the Odisha government has announced a dedicated contact number for the Odisha Parivar Independent Nodal Officer:

Residents facing emergency situations in the Middle East are encouraged to reach out through these official channels.


Joint Working Group Formed

Sports and Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj shared details of the state’s response through a post on X. He confirmed the formation of a joint working group to streamline coordination and communication.

The working group includes:

  • Directorate of Odisha Parivar

  • State Home Department

  • State Labour Directorate

  • Organisations working for the welfare of Non-Resident Indians

The group will facilitate real-time information sharing, coordinate assistance, and support affected individuals and families.


Government Monitoring Developments Closely

The Odisha government stated that it is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East and remains committed to ensuring the safety, dignity, and well-being of Odias residing abroad.

Officials reiterated that residents in affected areas should promptly contact designated helplines in case of any emergency or adverse situation.
