The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh nowcast warning for Puri, cautioning lakhs of devotees participating in the ongoing Rath Yatra 2026.
The bulletin, released at 7:00 AM Friday, forecasts cloudy skies, intermittent moderate rain, and light thunder over the next six hours.
According to the IMD, temperatures are expected to hover between 26–28°C, with humidity ranging from 90–98%, creating muggy conditions along the Grand Road (Bada Danda). The realised temperature at 5:30 AM was 26.8°C, with humidity at 93%.
Authorities have urged pilgrims to remain vigilant during lightning and thunderstorm activity. In case of heavy rain or strong winds, devotees should seek safe, permanent shelters and avoid temporary structures, trees, or electric poles.
Special advisories have been issued for the elderly, children, and those with medical conditions, asking them to limit exposure to rain and crowded areas. Pilgrims are advised to wear non‑slip footwear, exercise caution on slippery surfaces, and keep mobile phones charged for regular weather updates.
The IMD also recommended safeguarding valuables and documents in waterproof bags and avoiding sea bathing during high tide or rough conditions, except at designated safe zones.
