Two persons died, and five others sustained injuries after a borewell drilling vehicle overturned near Jhadankuli village in Ganjam district’s Nimakhandi area on Friday.
The accident occurred when the driver suddenly swerved the vehicle to avoid hitting a cyclist. He lost control, and the heavy vehicle overturned near a hatchery. The victims, identified as Rabi Naik and Shivaji Kanhar, were trapped under the vehicle and died on the spot.
The injured included the cyclist and four others who were rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment. Doctors confirmed that their condition is being closely monitored.
Police reached the site immediately and began an investigation into the circumstances of the accident. Authorities are examining whether negligence or overspeeding contributed to the mishap.
The tragic incident shocked residents of the area, highlighting the risks posed by heavy vehicles on narrow rural roads. Local witnesses reported chaos as people rushed to rescue those trapped under the overturned vehicle.
