Khachandra Singh had been undergoing treatment at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida. Doctors placed him on ventilator support and continuous renal therapy, but his health declined rapidly. Rinku initially rushed home when his father’s condition worsened before India’s Super 8 clash against Zimbabwe. He later rejoined the squad in Chennai but departed again after receiving the tragic news.
Rinku Singh did not feature in the playing XI against Zimbabwe as the team adjusted its combination. Sanju Samson returned to the top order, Ishan Kishan moved down, and Tilak Varma took finishing duties. Rinku still contributed as a substitute fielder during the match.
In this tournament, Rinku Singh played five matches and scored 24 runs in his finishing role. His absence now raises questions about India’s plans for the decisive clash against the West Indies in Kolkata. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet confirmed whether he will return for the remaining fixtures.
