Severe cold weather conditions continue to affect Odisha as a cold wave intensifies across the state, leading to a significant drop in night temperatures. The capital city, Bhubaneswar, experienced a sharp dip in mercury, recording a minimum temperature of 11.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

This marks a notable fall of 7.2 degrees Celsius compared to the average temperatures recorded over the past three days. On Monday, Bhubaneswar had registered a minimum temperature of 15.4 degrees Celsius, making the sudden drop particularly noticeable for residents.

Jharsuguda Coldest in Odisha

Among all districts, Jharsuguda recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 7.4 degrees Celsius, indicating severe cold wave conditions. Other regions also reported low minimum temperatures:

  • Keonjhar: 9.2°C

  • Balasore: 11.2°C

  • Chandbali: 12.4°C

  • Paradeep: 12.4°C

Cold Wave Likely to Intensify Further

According to the Meteorological Centre, the ongoing cold conditions are being driven by a steady inflow of dry and cold northerly winds into the region. Weather officials have warned that the cold wave is likely to intensify further over the next few days.

Night temperatures across Odisha are expected to drop by another 1 to 1.5 degrees Celsius over the next three days, particularly affecting hilly and interior districts as well as coastal areas.

Dense Fog Forecast Across Several Areas

In addition to the falling temperatures, the weather department has also issued a warning for dense fog at several locations across the state. Reduced visibility during early morning hours may impact road and rail travel, and residents are advised to take necessary precautions.
