A dramatic twist emerged in the alleged bride kidnapping case in Bolangir district as police revealed that the newlywed woman had plotted her escape with her lover.
Investigators traced the woman and her lover to Sambalpur district and detained them for questioning at Tarabha police station. Preliminary findings suggest that the woman conspired with her partner and called him to help her flee.
The incident occurred on February 21 when Rinku Putel of Kamakhi Nagar married the woman from Kantamal in Boudh district. While returning after the wedding, a white car intercepted their vehicle near Nuabandh under the Tarabha police limits. The bride’s lover allegedly threatened the groom at gunpoint and took the woman away.
The groom lodged a complaint at the Tarabha police station, claiming his wife had been kidnapped. However, evidence later indicated that the woman was in a relationship with the accused and had planned the act in advance.
Police identified the accused as Sanjay Sahu, 26, of Kantamal. He and the 19‑year‑old woman stayed at a relative’s house in Professor Colony, Sambalpur, after the incident. Both were arrested following interrogation.
