A 36-year-old man, identified as Md Anish, was shot dead in a firing incident under Burla police station limits in Sambalpur district on Saturday.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident stemmed from a personal dispute and longstanding grievance between the individuals involved. Police have detained the accused, Raja Swami of Mangala Bazar, Jharsuguda, at Burla police station.
The firearm used in the offence has also been seized. Authorities confirmed that the case appears to be confined to a personal dispute, with no wider threat to public safety.
Further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the shooting.
