Security forces launched a major offensive in the dense jungles of Karreguttalu, Chhattisgarh, close to the Telangana border, killing five Maoists in an exchange of fire.
The encounter erupted at dawn on February 19 during combing operations that began the previous night. Intelligence inputs suggested senior Maoist leaders Devji and Bade Chokkarao were hiding in the area. Maoists reportedly ambushed the forces, triggering a fierce gun battle.
Personnel from the CRPF, COBRA, Greyhounds, and District Reserve Guard participated in the operation. Officials confirmed that no casualties occurred among security personnel. Arms and revolutionary literature were seized from the site.
The slain Maoists have not yet been identified. Authorities said the toll could rise as Operation Kagar continues in the region. The offensive aims to dismantle Maoist strongholds along the Chhattisgarh–Telangana border.
The blast damaged two houses in Mahajanpur village, adding to the shock among locals. Security forces remain deployed in large numbers, combing the area to flush out remaining cadres.
