The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has welcomed Pakistan’s decision to participate in the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash at the T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled for February 15 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla on Tuesday praised the International Cricket Council (ICC) for playing a decisive role in resolving the deadlock that had casted shadow over the marquee encounter. Pakistan’s change of stance came after the ICC confirmed that no sanctions would be imposed on the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for its earlier decision not to travel to India and assured Bangladesh of hosting rights for a future ICC event before 2031.
Speaking to reporters, Shukla acknowledged the efforts made by the ICC leadership and its representatives who held discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the BCB in Lahore.
“I am delighted with the outcome of the deliberations initiated by the ICC. An amicable solution has been found that prioritises the spirit and importance of cricket,” Shukla said.
The impasse had intensified after Pakistan initially opted to boycott the match against India, expressing solidarity with Bangladesh following changes to the tournament’s group composition. Concerns related to scheduling, hosting rights, and regional tensions had further complicated the situation.
Shukla emphasised that the resolution benefits all stakeholders and restores focus on the tournament itself.
“This is a win-win situation for everyone involved. The scheduled match will now take place, Pakistan will participate, and the World Cup will move forward as planned,” he added.
The T20 World Cup 2026 began on February 7, but off-field uncertainty surrounding the India-Pakistan fixture had overshadowed the opening days. With the issue now resolved, Shukla expressed confidence that the tournament will regain momentum.
“With the decks now clear, this World Cup will be a success story. All boards are satisfied, and the ICC deserves credit for bringing everyone to the table,” he said.
The India-Pakistan match remains one of the most anticipated fixtures in world cricket, drawing global attention and massive viewership whenever the two teams meet in ICC tournaments.
