Rampur police seized more than 9,000 bottles of contraband cough syrup during a raid at Sahajbahal village under Dunguripali block in Subarnapur district on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap in the village. When a suspicious vehicle approached, the team intercepted it and searched in the presence of a magistrate. The operation led to the recovery of over 9,000 bottles of illegal cough syrup.
Police arrested Gulshan Sahoo, a resident of Satalama village in Bargarh district. Three other suspects managed to flee before the police could apprehend them.
Two vehicles used to transport the contraband were also seized during the raid. Police confirmed that further investigation is underway to trace the absconding suspects and dismantle the supply network.
Officials stressed that strict action will continue against those involved in the illegal drug trade, which poses a serious threat to public health and safety.
