A fierce political storm erupted in Parliament after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi allegedly called Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu a “traitor” during a heated exchange outside the Lok Sabha.

The remark drew sharp condemnation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who accused Gandhi of insulting not just Bittu but the entire Sikh community.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Modi said the comment reflected “arrogance and hatred towards Sikhs,” emphasising that Bittu’s family had sacrificed for the nation. “How can changing political ideology make someone a traitor? This insult is not just to Bittu but to the Gurus and the Sikh community,” Modi declared.

The Prime Minister further alleged that Congress has a long history of anti-Sikh sentiment, linking Gandhi’s remark to the party’s divisive politics. He accused Congress of misleading people with slogans like Garibi Hatao while stalling development.

The confrontation triggered uproar in Parliament, with Opposition members staging a walkout during Modi’s 1-hour-35-minute speech in the Rajya Sabha. His remarks came a day after the Lok Sabha was adjourned amid chaos over the issue.

The clash underscores escalating tensions between the BJP and Congress, with Modi framing Gandhi’s remark as part of a broader pattern of disrespect toward Sikhs and divisive politics by the Opposition.
