Police recovered the body of a 19‑year‑old youth from a forest near Tangar Ghat under Rampur outpost limits in Brajarajnagar on Tuesday, sparking suspicion of murder.

The deceased has been identified as Sahil Sahis, son of Satyanarayan Sahis of Buguda Pada village. According to reports, Sahil had gone missing from his home on February 1. His father lodged a missing complaint at the Rampur outpost, following which the police began a search operation.

Acting on a tip‑off, police reached Tangar Ghat forest and discovered a sack lying inside the jungle. On opening it, officers found a body with hands and legs tied, emitting a strong stench. Investigators believe the youth was murdered and dumped in the forest two to three days earlier.

Brajarajnagar IIC Dhableswar Sahu and a scientific team inspected the spot, while Jharsuguda SP Gundala Reddy Raghavendra, SDPO Chintamani Pradhan, and Rampur outpost officer Sudarshan Behera supervised the investigation. The body was seized and sent for post‑mortem examination.

Police have detained three suspects for questioning as part of the probe. Officials confirmed that further investigation is underway to establish the motive and identify those responsible.

The incident has shocked the local community, with residents demanding swift justice for the victim.
