Air India Dreamliner fuel switch malfunction

An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner was grounded after its left fuel control switch failed to remain in the run position, twice slipping to cutoff during engine startup.

The aircraft had just arrived from London Heathrow as flight AI 132.

Air India confirmed the defect was reported by the pilot, prompting immediate grounding. Boeing, the aircraft’s manufacturer, has been notified, and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is reviewing the case.

Fuel control switches regulate fuel flow into engines and are critical during startup and shutdown. A similar malfunction was linked to the tragic Ahmedabad crash in June 2025, which claimed 260 lives. Following that incident, Air India inspected all 787 fuel switches but reported no issues.

The airline reiterated that passenger and crew safety remains its highest priority.
