A notorious criminal from Bihar, Deepak Kumar, sustained bullet injuries during a police encounter while attempting to loot an ATM in the Badagada area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
The exchange of fire occurred as police thwarted the robbery, shooting Kumar in the leg when he tried to escape under gunfire. Authorities confirmed Kumar’s involvement in an interstate ATM robbery gang. He was initially treated at Capital Hospital and later moved to AIIMS Bhubaneswar as his condition worsened.
Kumar, a repeat offender, has multiple ATM robbery cases against him. Police are investigating the gang’s other members, weapon sources, and modus operandi.
The encounter comes amid rising ATM robbery cases in Bhubaneswar. Earlier, six suspects were arrested for a January heist involving a cash-loaded ATM dumped in Gangua Canal after being robbed.
