The Special Crime Unit (SCU) of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police seized six semi-automatic pistols, ten rounds of live ammunition, and six magazines during a midnight operation.
Officers also arrested the principal suspect, Papu alias Manoj Kumar Mallick of Jajpur district.
Acting on a coordinated intelligence tip-off, the SCU launched a surveillance operation near Kuji Mahal Play Ground under Chandaka police limits at 2 AM. The team tracked and intercepted the suspect, leading to the recovery of weapons along with a mobile phone, a two-wheeler, and cash worth Rs 500.
Police confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody without resistance and is currently under interrogation to reveal details about his network and supply chain. The seized cache marks a significant success in the Commissionerate’s ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and eliminate unlawful weapons activities.
Authorities stated that the detained individual will be presented before the court as investigations continue to trace financial backers and broader connections. The Commissionerate urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the Special Crime Unit at 0674-2916383 between 10 AM and 8 PM. Informants’ identities will remain strictly confidential.
