An undertrial prisoner died at Baliguda Jail in Kandhamal district on Wednesday.
The deceased, identified as Herad Digal of Badi Munda village under Tikabali block, was lodged in jail in connection with a murder case registered at Tikabali police station. Authorities had shifted him from Udayagiri Jail to Baliguda Jail two months ago.
Officials said Digal had been suffering from health problems. He recently returned after receiving treatment in Berhampur. However, he fell ill again two days ago. Jail authorities admitted him to Baliguda hospital, where he died during treatment.
Deputy Jailor Dola Gobinda Behera confirmed the incident and said necessary procedures are being followed.
