The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium is buzzing with anticipation as India and South Africa face off in the decisive third T20I of the 2025 series.

With the contest finely balanced at 1-1, both teams are eager to seize the momentum and clinch the upper hand.

India skipper Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and elected to field first, a decision that reflects confidence in his bowling unit’s ability to contain South Africa’s in-form batting lineup. The Men in Blue are looking to bounce back after a disappointing second game.

Suryakumar said, “We’ll bowl first, the wicket looks good, and there’s a bit of dew. It might become heavier later, so we think bowling first is the best approach. We’re happy to be here, the crowd is fantastic, and we want to entertain them. Every game is important, and we need to be switched on for all three hours. We’re making two forced changes, with Harshit Rana and Kuldeep Yadav coming in for Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah.”

According to the BCCI, Axar Patel is unavailable for the third T20I due to illness. Jasprit Bumrah has gone back home for personal reasons and will be unavailable for the game. An update on him joining the squad for the remaining matches will be provided in due course, the BCCI said.

South Africa, on the other hand, enters the match riding high on Quinton de Kock’s masterful batting display and strong middle-order contributions in the previous outing. Captain Aiden Markram will be keen to maintain the Proteas’ aggressive approach and put pressure on India’s bowlers early on.

Markram said, “It’s nice to be here, and it’s a bit chilly, quite different from Joburg. We’re looking forward to a great evening of cricket. We weren’t up to the mark in the first game, so it’s great to see the team’s response. We need to back it up again tonight and play consistently. We’re making three changes today and are excited to see how the team performs.”

The atmosphere in Dharamsala is electric, with fans turning out in large numbers to witness what promises to be a thrilling encounter. The picturesque venue has set the stage for a battle of nerves, skill, and strategy as both sides aim to tilt the series in their favour.

IND Playing XI: A. Sharma, S. Gill, S. Yadav (c), T. Varma, H. Pandya, J. Sharma (wk), S. Dube, V. Chakaravarthy, K. Yadav, H. Rana, A. Singh.

As the players take the field, the question looms large: Will India rediscover their winning formula, or will South Africa ride their momentum to go 2-1 up in the series?
