Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu has opened a new conversation around women’s health by addressing one of the most common concerns many women face—whether fertility is directly linked to age. In a preview shared on December 8 from her upcoming interview with renowned obstetrician-gynaecologist Dr Nozer Sheriar, the actor highlighted the myths and societal pressures often attached to the topic.

Samantha captioned the clip: “Fertility often feels scary, confusing, and overwhelming. But it really doesn’t have to be.” The discussion aims to provide clarity for anyone who dreams of becoming a parent but feels anxious about age-related fertility expectations.

Is Fertility Connected to Age?

Responding to Samantha’s question about whether age determines a woman’s fertility, Dr Sheriar said, “There is no doubt that there is a connection between fertility and age, but there is also no doubt that women don’t need to be pushed by this kind of connection.”

He further emphasised that personal choice should guide family-planning decisions.
“Women should have babies when they want to—not because they feel they have to. Science, the profession, and society must support them in that choice,” he added.

Why Age Still Matters—But Shouldn’t Create Pressure

Dr Sheriar explained that while the body renews most cells every few months, a woman’s egg cells are the only ones that remain her age, making them a key biological factor in fertility. Even so, he stressed that the conversation around fertility must remain supportive rather than fear-driven.

The doctor also highlighted a frequently overlooked aspect of fertility discussions: men’s reproductive health. He noted that sperm counts have been dropping globally and that lifestyle choices significantly affect fertility outcomes for all genders.

A Call for Balanced, Informed Choices

Samantha’s conversation with Dr Sheriar aims to empower people with reliable information, encouraging them to make decisions based on health, readiness, and personal circumstances—not societal pressure.
