A 16-year-old girl, Sai Shraddha Mishra of Shanti Nagar under Ainthapali police limits in Sambalpur, died under suspicious circumstances on December 4.
Her uncle, Asit Kumar Nanda, accused relatives of murdering her over property disputes. He claimed that Shraddha’s mother was also killed in 2017 in a similar manner, but the police ignored the case under pressure.
Nanda demanded a strict investigation and immediate action. He alleged that the family planned the murder to gain control of the property. He urged police to act decisively to prevent further injustice.
Local residents discovered Shraddha lying unconscious in a drain at Shantinagar. They informed the police, who removed her from the drain and took her to the District Headquarters Hospital. Doctors declared her dead. Her body showed injuries on the face, raising suspicion of foul play.
Police officer P.K. Swain stated that the truth would emerge after the post-mortem report. He confirmed that the police registered a case based on the complaint and began an investigation.
The incident shocked the community. Residents expressed concern about repeated suspicious deaths in the family. They demanded accountability and transparency in the investigation.
Police continue to examine evidence and question suspects. Authorities focus on whether the death resulted from murder or an accident. The case highlights the need for stronger law enforcement in Sambalpur.
