A Liaison Assistant of Ashoka Buildcon, Shantanu Naik, posted at Bargarh, was today convicted by the Vigilance court, Bargarh, in a bribery case registered by Odisha Vigilance.
Naik had been charge-sheeted under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d), 7 and 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for colluding with a public servant and demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a landowner. The bribe was allegedly taken to facilitate the enhancement of compensation for the complainant’s land acquired for a project.
The Special Judge, Vigilance, sentenced Naik to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three years and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.
The case was investigated by Mamita Kumari Pradhan, then Inspector, Vigilance, Sambalpur Division (presently Deputy Superintendent of Police, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar Division). The prosecution was jointly conducted by Special Public Prosecutors Gourmohan Das and Rabinarayan Bhoi on behalf of Odisha Vigilance.
