A tragic accident occurred at Kurikana Chhak on the Barada–Taranga R&D road under Jenapur police station in Jajpur district on Tuesday morning, claiming the life of a college student.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjib Kumar Nayak, son of Satrughna Nayak of Rampai village. Sanjib was on his way to Chadeidhara Jagannath Jew College on a scooter along with another student when the mishap took place.
Near a speed hump, a heavy truck carrying stones from Rampai hill reportedly lost balance. Sanjib fell onto the road, and another truck ran over his head, killing him instantly at the spot.
The incident triggered anger among locals, who staged a road blockade and set fire to four trucks on the highway. The protest created tension in the area, with traffic movement disrupted for hours.
Police and fire services rushed to the spot, brought the situation under control, and doused the flames. Security forces have been deployed to prevent further escalation.
Authorities are investigating how the accident occurred, with reports suggesting it happened near the KP Cross Highway. Meanwhile, villagers demanded immediate compensation and assistance for the bereaved family.
