A tragic incident occurred near Tamil Chowk in Malkangiri district, where a woman allegedly attempted self-immolation by pouring kerosene on herself after a dispute with her husband.
According to local sources, the woman, identified as Madhuri Kachim, had an argument with her husband, Narendra Kachim, over the phone. In distress, she poured kerosene and set herself on fire. Her husband rushed to the spot and, with the help of relatives, tried to extinguish the flames. In the process, he also sustained burn injuries on both hands and parts of his body.
Relatives immediately shifted both to the district headquarters hospital for treatment. Doctors reported that the woman suffered burns on more than 80 per cent of her body, while her husband sustained injuries on about 20 per cent. Their condition remains critical.
The incident has shocked the local community, drawing attention to the urgent need for awareness and support around mental health and family disputes.
