A well-marked low-pressure area over the Strait of Malacca and the south Andaman Sea is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm over the South Bay of Bengal by November 27, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The weather system is currently strengthening and is expected to evolve into a depression today before moving northeastwards toward Bangladesh. Meteorologists indicate that the system will gradually weaken over the sea and is likely to dissipate before landfall, minimizing any potential impact on coastal regions.
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on November 28, urging residents to stay informed about local advisories.
Importantly, the IMD has issued no warnings for Odisha, confirming that the developing system is not expected to affect the state. Maritime conditions along the Odisha coast are stable, and no warnings have been issued for fishermen for the next five days.
The IMD continues to monitor the system closely and will provide updates if conditions change.
