The death of popular Odia playback singer Humane Sagar continues to stir controversy, and allegations of foul play gain momentum with each passing day.
Consequently, demands for a thorough investigation have grown louder across Odisha.
Meanwhile, the Utkaliyam Foundation, a prominent social organisation, filed a petition with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The petition seeks justice for Sagar’s family, calling for the arrest of alleged conspirators and those accused of mistreating his mother. In addition, the foundation demands the immediate release of Sagar’s earnings to his family and compensation of Rs 50 lakh.
Furthermore, the petition highlights suspicions of a conspiracy behind Sagar’s demise. It accuses certain individuals of orchestrating his death while subjecting his mother to verbal abuse and physical assault. Rajib Lochan Pradhan, the foundation’s president and a lawyer, submitted the petition and emphasised accountability. He stated that Sagar’s mother, already devastated by the loss of her only son, suffered further trauma due to indecent behaviour and threats.
At the same time, Humane Sagar’s mother alleged earlier that her son was exploited and deliberately killed. Her claims fueled public outrage and intensified accusations against unnamed parties.
Adding to the chorus of doubts, renowned music director Premanand publicly questioned the circumstances of Sagar’s death. He described Humane as a simple and straightforward person who was emotionally manipulated and suffering from physical ailments. Moreover, Premanand revealed that Sagar repeatedly expressed a desire to meet his daughter but was allegedly prevented from doing so. He condemned the abuse directed at Sagar’s mother, noting that she has been mentally shattered by the tragedy. “An investigation into Humane’s death will bring the truth to light,” Premanand asserted.
Ultimately, the Odia entertainment industry and fans await clarity on what many perceive as a suspicious loss of a talented artist.
