President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, attended the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas celebration organised by the Government of Chhattisgarh on November 20, 2025, at Ambikapur in Surguja district.

Addressing the gathering, the President emphasised that tribal communities contribute a glorious chapter to India’s history. She described India as the mother of democracy and pointed to examples from ancient republics and tribal traditions, including the ‘Muria Darbar’ in Bastar, which functioned as a people’s parliament.

She noted that tribal heritage thrives in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Jharkhand. Furthermore, she appreciated the Chhattisgarh Government for celebrating Tribal Pride Fortnight from November 1 to 15 on a large scale this year.

Highlighting welfare measures, the President outlined several national-level schemes launched in the past decade. She referred to the ‘Dharti Aba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan,’ launched on Gandhi Jayanti last year, which aims to benefit over 50 million tribal citizens. Moreover, she mentioned the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN Abhiyan), launched in 2023, to support the social and economic development of 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).

The President also highlighted the ‘Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan,’ launched during the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. She explained that the initiative is building a network of 20 lakh volunteers across the country to strengthen tribal development efforts at the grassroots level.

She expressed satisfaction that people across India, including Chhattisgarh, are moving away from Left Wing Extremism and joining the mainstream of development. Additionally, she praised the success of the recently held Bastar Olympics, which saw participation from over 165,000 people.

Concluding her address, the President expressed confidence that by following the ideals of tribal icons, the people of Chhattisgarh will contribute significantly to building a strong, self-reliant, and developed India.
