In a surprising turn of events, Novak Djokovic announced his withdrawal from the ATP Finals 2025, barely an hour after securing the ATP 250 Athens title on November 8, 2025.

The Serbian tennis legend revealed that a shoulder injury would prevent him from competing in the season-ending tournament in Turin, which begins on Sunday, November 9.

This marks the second consecutive year that Djokovic will not participate in the prestigious ATP Finals, an event that features the top eight men’s players of the year. Djokovic had been eager to compete, but after winning a hard-fought Hellenic Championship final against Lorenzo Musetti, Djokovic shared the unfortunate news on social media.

“I was really looking forward to competing in Turin and giving my best, but after today’s final in Athens, I regret to share that I must withdraw due to a continuing injury,” Djokovic wrote. “I am so sorry to the fans who were looking forward to seeing me play; your support means so much to me. I wish all the players an amazing tournament, and I look forward to being back on the court with you all soon!”

Victory in Athens: A Record-Breaking Win

Djokovic’s victory in Athens came after a thrilling three-hour match against Musetti. The Serbian fought back from a set down to win 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, securing his 72nd hard court title, setting a new record for the most hard court titles by a man, surpassing Roger Federer. This was also his 101st career title, solidifying his place as one of tennis’ all-time greats.

Musetti Replaces Djokovic in ATP Finals

Due to Djokovic’s withdrawal, Lorenzo Musetti, who lost to Djokovic in the Athens final, will take his place in the ATP Finals 2025. This will be the Italian’s debut at the event, marking a significant milestone in his career. Musetti had a standout 2025 season, making it to two finals, including a Masters 1000 final in Monte Carlo, and reached the semifinals in Madrid, Rome, and Vienna.

Musetti will replace Djokovic in the Jimmy Connors Group, where he will face top players, including Carlos Alcaraz. The Italian has a solid chance to make an impact at the ATP Finals, and fans are excited to see his debut at this prestigious event.
