CM Majhi Lays Foundation for Rs 2,067 Cr Semiconductor Facility at Info Valley

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi led the foundation ceremony for a ₹2,067 crore semiconductor manufacturing unit by SiCSem Pvt Ltd at Info Valley, Bhubaneswar.


The initiative marks a major leap in Odisha’s journey to become a leading semiconductor hub.

The project will create 1,000 professional jobs, boosting employment and innovation. During the event, Majhi announced that SiCSem will invest ₹64 crore to set up a Research and Innovation Centre at IIT Bhubaneswar. Meanwhile, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw approved ₹5 crore from his MP LAD fund to establish a ‘Namo Semiconductor Laboratory’ at the same institute. He also revealed plans for a Power Electronics Hub at IIT Bhubaneswar.

Majhi emphasized that Odisha now represents aspiration, stability, and self-reliance. He noted that the semiconductors produced will support sectors like defense, solar energy, railways, and electric vehicles. With this momentum, Odisha is emerging as India’s new electronics and IT capital after Bengaluru.

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India is advancing from chip design to system integration. Odisha is playing a pivotal role in this transformation. Already, two companies have signed MoUs to invest ₹3,000 crore in semiconductor units in the state.

Vaishnaw described Odisha as the gateway of Purvodaya and praised the collaboration between industry and academia. He called the Namo Semiconductor Lab a golden opportunity for youth to explore advanced technologies.

Health and IT Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling highlighted the importance of semiconductors in driving IT transformation. He affirmed that Odisha is helping realize the vision of a developed India.
