Under the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Odisha is making rapid strides in multiple sectors, including agriculture, education, healthcare, and infrastructure development.
The state is drawing attention from across the nation for its progress. To further bolster sports infrastructure and promote athletics from the grassroots level, officials and engineers must take proactive steps, stated Law, Works, and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan.
A review meeting on the progress of various sports infrastructure projects was held today at Lok Seva Bhawan, in the presence of Odia Language, Literature and Culture, Higher Education, and Sports and Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj.
Addressing the meeting, Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj emphasised that true sports development extends beyond state and district levels—it must reach the grassroots. “Rural Odisha is brimming with talent. By providing world-class training facilities, we can elevate Odisha’s pride in the sports arena. To achieve the state government’s goals for sports and athletes’ advancement, everyone must collaborate,” he said.
The discussions covered ongoing constructions, including various swimming pool complexes, the Jajpur Sports Complex, iconic sports complexes in Sambalpur and Jharsuguda along with indoor halls, and the Football Training Center in Sambalpur. Additionally, plans for proposed world-class sports infrastructure in Jharsuguda and Bhadrak were reviewed.
With an eye on the future and to offer athletes international-level training, the meeting stressed making every infrastructure project adhere to global standards. Works Department Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh highlighted the importance of comprehensive Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), incorporating modern technology and advanced machinery during construction.
The meeting was attended by Sports Department Commissioner-cum-Secretary Sachin Ramchandra Yadav, Engineer-in-Chief (Civil) Satyabrata Behera, OBCC Managing Director Sameer Hota, Chief Engineer (Building) Priyabrata Samantaray, and Additional Secretary of Sports Bijay Swain, among others.
This initiative aligns with the state’s commitment to fostering a robust sports ecosystem, ensuring that even remote areas benefit from high-quality facilities to nurture emerging talents.
