As the nation prepares to illuminate homes and hearts with the glow of diyas, President Droupadi Murmu extended her warmest greetings to fellow Indians on the eve of Diwali, emphasising the festival’s timeless values of hope, unity, and environmental responsibility.

In an official message released today, the President invoked the profound symbolism of Diwali, describing it as a vibrant celebration that transcends borders and unites millions in joy. “On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, I extend my heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all Indians, both in India and across the world,” she said, highlighting the festival’s role in marking the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil.

Diwali, often called the Festival of Lights, is one of India’s most cherished traditions, observed with elaborate rituals, fireworks, and feasts. Families across the country and the diaspora adorn their homes with rangoli patterns, light earthen lamps, and perform Lakshmi Puja to invoke blessings for prosperity. President Murmu underscored the deeper ethos of the occasion: fostering mutual affection, brotherhood, and selfless support for the underprivileged. “This festival of joy is also an occasion for self-reflection and self-improvement,” she noted, urging citizens to extend a helping hand to the deprived and bring smiles to those in need.

In a timely nod to contemporary challenges, the President called for mindful festivities. “I urge everyone to celebrate Diwali safely, responsibly and in an environmentally friendly manner,” she advised, promoting practices like reduced firecracker use and sustainable decorations to preserve the planet’s health amid growing concerns over pollution.

Concluding on an uplifting note, President Murmu expressed her sincere hopes for the festival: “May this Diwali bring happiness, peace, and prosperity to all.” Her words resonate deeply in a diverse nation where Diwali not only signifies renewal but also strengthens communal bonds in an increasingly connected world.

As preparations peak with markets buzzing and temples alive with chants, the President’s message serves as a gentle reminder to blend tradition with progress.
