The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has officially declared Puri Srimandir a Red Zone to strengthen security around the sacred site.

The order will remain valid until September 25, 2028.

This move follows repeated violations of the existing no-fly zone, where drones were spotted hovering above the temple despite restrictions. Authorities aim to prevent unauthorized aerial activity and safeguard devotees and temple property.

The Red Zone classification prohibits any drone or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) from flying over the temple premises. Operators must obtain a valid Unique Identification Number (UIN) from DGCA to fly drones in surrounding areas. Violators will face legal action.

The temple, one of India’s most revered religious landmarks, already had a no-fly zone in place. However, recent incidents prompted stricter enforcement. Residents reported drones flying over the temple in early January, raising alarm among devotees and officials.

Puri police have issued advisories and increased surveillance. Officials confirmed that the Red Zone status will help prevent security breaches and ensure a safer environment during major events like the annual Ratha Jatra.

The DGCA’s decision reflects growing concerns over drone misuse near sensitive locations. The administration plans to coordinate with local law enforcement to monitor compliance and educate the public about the new rules.
