A truck fire in Cuttack injured the driver and destroyed a cargo of pulses early Thursday morning.
The truck had arrived from Kolkata and was parked at Malgodam in Cuttack. Meanwhile, the driver, who was sleeping inside the cabin, lit a mosquito coil to ward off insects. Unfortunately, the coil likely ignited nearby materials, causing a fire that quickly engulfed the vehicle.
Soon after, local residents noticed the flames and alerted the fire brigade. Consequently, teams from Chauliaganj and Buxi Bazaar reached the spot and worked to control the blaze. After a strenuous effort, firefighters managed to extinguish the fire.
As a result, the driver sustained severe burns and was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. His condition remains critical. Additionally, the truck’s owner arrived at the scene after receiving news of the incident.
Notably, the truck fire in Cuttack not only injured the driver but also destroyed the entire cargo of pulses. At present, authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire, though initial reports point to the mosquito coil as the trigger.
In light of this, the incident highlights the risks of using open flames inside vehicles. Fire officials urged truckers to avoid flammable items while resting in parked vehicles. Furthermore, the loss of cargo and damage to the truck are being assessed by insurance agents and local authorities.
