In response to forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall, district administrations across Koraput, Malkangiri, Ganjam, and Nuapada have ordered the closure of all schools today.
The precautionary measure aims to safeguard students from potential weather-related hazards.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an alert predicting intense rainfall across southern Odisha, prompting swift action from local authorities. In Malkangiri and Koraput, all government, private, and aided schools have been instructed to remain shut. However, teachers and staff are expected to report for duty.
Ganjam district has extended the closure to Anganwadi centers as well, while the Collector has issued a directive preventing government employees from leaving district headquarters for the next two days. Similar orders have been enforced in Nuapada.
The decision underscores the administration’s commitment to public safety and readiness in the face of extreme weather events. Parents and guardians have been advised to stay updated through official channels and take necessary precautions.
