The third installment of the Subhadra Yojana, Odisha’s flagship women’s welfare scheme, has sparked concern after nearly 4 lakh beneficiaries were excluded from receiving the Rs 5,000 payout.

Responding to a query raised by MLA Ganeshwar Behera, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida revealed the exclusion figures during the Assembly session.

According to official data:

  • 3,99,352 women were excluded from the third installment
  • 1,83,785 women were excluded from the second installment
  • 1.28 crore women received the first installment
  • 1.96 crore women received the second installment
  • 96.96 lakh women received the third installment
  • A total of 1.98 crore applications were submitted under the scheme

The exclusions were attributed to various factors including ineligibility due to income, vehicle ownership, landholding, or discrepancies in ration card data. The government has initiated a field-level verification to re-evaluate the status of excluded beneficiaries.

Deputy CM Parida assured that the findings of the ongoing survey will be submitted to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for further action. The Subhadra Yojana, launched in 2024, aims to empower women aged 21–60 by providing Rs 50,000 over five years in biannual installments.
