The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh alert indicating the formation of a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal around September 24, which is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area by September 25.
According to IMD forecasts, the system will develop over the east-central and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal, moving toward the Myanmar–Bangladesh coast. It is likely to evolve into a depression by September 26, potentially triggering widespread rainfall across Odisha, especially in northern districts between September 27 and 28.
Weather expert Sarat Sahoo added that a separate system forming over the South China Sea may intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by September 22, and its remnants could merge with the Bay of Bengal system, further enhancing rainfall intensity.
The IMD has cautioned that the evolving weather pattern may impact Durga Puja festivities, with heavy showers expected to dampen celebrations in several regions.
