Odisha’s Law, Public Works, and Excise Minister, Prithviraj Harichandan, announced two significant decisions aimed at enhancing the management and devotee experience at the revered Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri.

The announcements, made after consultations with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, address long-standing issues related to the temple’s donation box (hundi) and the Ratna Bhandar treasury.

The first decision involves the relocation of the temple’s hundi, which has been obstructing the smooth implementation of queue-based darshan (devotional viewing) for pilgrims.

Minister Harichandan revealed that the Chief Minister has approved the shifting of the hundi to facilitate a trial run of the queue darshan system.

The exact location for the hundi’s relocation will be finalised after discussions between the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) and the Puri District Collector.

This move is expected to streamline the darshan process, making it more accessible and organised for devotees.

In another crucial development, the minister confirmed that on September 23, 2025, ornament-filled chests will be moved into the Ratna Bhandar, the temple’s sacred treasury. This decision was finalised during a meeting of the Ratna Bhandar subcommittee.

The transfer will take place in the presence of the temple administration and a high-level committee, ensuring transparency and adherence to tradition.

These decisions mark significant steps toward improving the temple’s operations and preserving its sanctity, addressing both logistical challenges and the management of its sacred treasures.
