A technical fault disrupted Mumbai Monorail services early Monday morning, stranding 17 passengers near Wadala’s Antop Hill station.
The incident occurred around 7:15 AM due to a power supply failure between Antop Hill Bus Depot and GTBN stations.
According to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the stranded passengers were safely evacuated by 7:45 AM and transferred to another train arriving from Chembur. No injuries were reported. Services resumed fully by 9:30 AM after the affected rake was detached and towed away.
The Fire Brigade was deployed as a precaution, and MMRDA confirmed that the faulty train will undergo a detailed inspection to determine the cause of the glitch. During the disruption, services between Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk and Wadala operated on a single line, while the Wadala-Chembur stretch remained unaffected.
The Mumbai Monorail, India’s only monorail system, has faced repeated technical challenges since its phased launch in 2014. Monday’s incident coincided with heavy rainfall across the city, which caused waterlogging and traffic delays in several areas.
