The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday said it is closely monitoring the situation in Nepal after violent protests led to the death of several young people and injuries to many others.
In an official statement, the MEA said,
“We are closely monitoring the developments in Nepal since yesterday and are deeply saddened by the loss of many young lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased. We also wish speedy recovery for those who were injured.”
Reiterating India’s stance as a close friend and neighbour, the ministry added,
“As a close friend and neighbour, we hope that all concerned will exercise restraint and address any issues through peaceful means and dialogue.”
The MEA confirmed that it has taken note of the curfew imposed in Kathmandu and several other cities by the Nepali authorities.
Indian nationals currently in Nepal have been advised to exercise caution and follow all guidelines and instructions issued by local authorities.
