Indian boxers delivered a strong performance on Day 2 of the World Boxing Championships 2025, with Sumit Kundu, Neeraj Phogat, and Jaismine Lamboria advancing to the pre-quarterfinals in their respective categories.
Sumit Kundu, returning to top-flight competition after a two-year hiatus, dominated Jordan’s Mohammad Alhussein with a 5–0 victory in the men’s 75kg category. His aggressive tactics and relentless pressure overwhelmed the taller opponent, earning him a bout against Paris Olympian Rami Kiwan of Bulgaria in the next round.
In the women’s 65kg division, Neeraj Phogat edged past Finland’s Krista Kovalainen in a nail-biting 3–2 contest. Despite losing momentum in the second round, Neeraj’s precision in the third secured her a last-16 clash with England’s Sacha Hickey.
World Boxing Cup gold medallist Jaismine also impressed, cruising past Ukraine’s Daria-Olha Hutarina with a 5–0 win in the women’s 57kg opener. She now faces Brazil’s Pan American Games champion Jucielen Cerqueira in the pre-quarters.
India’s campaign continues with high hopes as several boxers remain in contention for medals and qualification points ahead of the Paris Olympics.
