Public darshan of Lord Jagannath at the Puri Srimandir will remain suspended for five hours today (Thursday) to observe the Bamana Janma Niti. Devotees will not be allowed to enter the sanctum sanctorum from 5 PM to 10 PM.
Bamana Janma Niti is observed on Bhadraba Shukla Dwadashi Tithi to commemorate the birth of Lord Bamana (Vamana), the fifth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The rituals begin early in the morning with Mangala Alati, Mailama, Tadapa Lagi, and Gopala Ballabha seva.
Once Chheka is taken to the Garbha Gruha (sanctum sanctorum), the Bamana Janma rituals are performed in complete confidentiality by Puja Panda and other Sevayats.
While the main darshan remains closed, devotees can continue to offer prayers to other deities inside the temple complex and partake in Maha Prasad during this period.
