Veterinary Care Expands in Odisha’s Tribal Heartlands

Mobile Units and Dairy Projects Bring Livestock Health Services Closer to Remote Communities

Under the banner of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Odisha has made significant strides in strengthening veterinary care across its remote and tribal regions.


According to a written reply in the Rajya Sabha by Union Minister of State Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, the state currently operates 541 veterinary hospitals, including 126 in tribal areas, and 314 Mobile Veterinary Units (MVUs), of which 121 serve tribal zones.

To further support farmers, a toll-free helpline (1962) staffed by veterinary doctors and executives is operational, offering real-time guidance and assistance.

💉 Disease Control Funding (LHDCP)

Over the last five years, Odisha received ₹9,147.42 lakh under the Livestock Health & Disease Control Programme (LHDCP). Notably, ₹2,896 lakh allocated in FY 2021–22 was returned by the state.

🥛 Dairy Development in Tribal Odisha

Under the National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD), 7 projects have been approved in Odisha, with a total cost of ₹6259.66 lakh. Of this, ₹5383.95 lakh has already been released, benefiting dairy cooperatives in tribal belts.

This initiative reflects a growing commitment to inclusive livestock development and rural empowerment in Odisha.
