Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Odisha Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik today, who is currently undergoing treatment at SUM Ultimate Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
During the conversation, PM Modi enquired about Mr Patnaik’s health and conveyed his heartfelt wishes for a swift and full recovery.
Sources close to the development said the Prime Minister expressed concern and advised Mr Patnaik to take adequate rest before resuming his official engagements. He also extended an invitation to visit Delhi once he feels better, suggesting a personal meeting in the near future.
Patnaik was admitted to SUM Ultimate Medicare on Sunday at 5:15 PM after falling ill due to dehydration. A medical team led by Dr. Alok Panigrahi is overseeing his treatment. On Monday afternoon, Patnaik was shifted from the observation room to a cabin, signalling positive progress in his recovery. Hospital sources indicate that he is steadily regaining strength and is expected to be discharged soon.
In a video message from his hospital bed, Patnaik expressed gratitude to the doctors and staff for their care, stating, “I am here in the Sum Hospital. The staff and doctors are taking wonderful care of me. Thank you for your kind wishes. If you want to come and see me, you are more than welcome to come to Naveen Niwas.”
On June 22, 2025, Patnaik had successful spine surgery for cervical arthritis at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. He returned to Bhubaneswar on July 12 after a 21-day recovery.
Patnaik, a beloved figure in Odisha politics, continues to command immense respect, and his health update has been warmly received by well-wishers.
