The Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani convicted the ex-WEO of Daringbadi Block in Kandhamal district and sentenced him to undergo a rigorous imprisonment of 4 years and to pay a fine of Rs 10,000.
The convict has been identified as Ranjan Jena, Former Welfare Extension Officer, Daringbadi Block, Dist-Kandhamal, A/p-Welfare Extension Officer, Nimapada, Dist-Puri.
Jena, who was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 PC Act,1988 for demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 6,000 from a complainant for passing of electric bills of Kirikuti UG High school, was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 4 years and to pay fine of Rs 10,000.
Further, the convict Jena was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence. Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for the dismissal of Jena, from service following his conviction.
In another vigilance case, R. Jaga Rao Reddy, Ex-DLR Peon, OMVD Check gate, Balarampur, Dist-Ganjam (Disengaged from service) and his spouse Smt. R. Urvasi, who were charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act, 1988 for possessing disproportionate assets (DA), were convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and to pay a fine of Rs 25,000.
